*Coaches "Trags" and "Blanch" with Mitch.
|
Now in his 15th season with the Nashville Predators (and 22nd in the NHL), Mitch previously spent seven seasons as the Goaltender Coach for the Buffalo Sabres organization.
His hard work, superb communication skills, ability to “dissect" a goalie’s game, and great sense of humor has gained him the respect and friendship of those he has coached and worked with at all levels. In 2010, “The Hockey News” chose Mitch as “one of the top 10 Genius’ in hockey”.
Fondly referred to as “Children of the Korn” (a phrase coined by Predator head coach Barry Trotz) these current and former goalies (many of whom are now coaching) have benefited from and helped spread the “goalie gospel according to Mitch”.
Besides having coached present and former pro goalies Pekka Rinne, Anders Lindback, Chris Mason, Dan Ellis, Marty Biron, Ty Conklin, Mark Dekanich, Dominik Hasek, Tomas Vokoun, Drew MacIntyre, Jeremy Smith, Magnus Hellberg, Zoltan Hetenyi, Chet Pickard and Mike McKenna, Mitch has coached and influenced many others who have (in the past) or who are currently coaching professionally. They include: Mike Valley (Dallas), Corey Hirsch (St. Louis), Clint Malarchuk (Calgary), Olaf Kolzig (Washington), Mike Dunham (Islanders), Wade Flaherty (Winnipeg), Grant Fuhr (formerly Phoenix), Steve McKichan (formerly Toronto), Ben Vanderklok (Milwaukee-AHL for Nashville), Mike Bales (Wilkes Barre – AHL for Pittsburgh) and Bob Janosz (Rochester-AHL for Buffalo).
In addition, Mitch has trained countless others who now are in the "goalie business" coaching and training a "new generation" of goaltenders at various levels. Some include Nick Petraglia, Chris Economou, Josh Hand, Bill Pye, Aaron Kinslow, Alan Avery, Karl Goehring, Laura Pecchia, Shane Connelly, Mike Lane, Steve Briere, Richard Shulmistra, Steve Shields, etc. Mitch is truly a teacher and a mentor.
Mitch has 35+ years of organizing and running summer hockey programs. Mitch will personally do all the coaching for each Goalie Camp. He is absolutely “hands on”.

- Mitch teaches all aspects of the Goalie Schools.
- Who can match 22
years of NHL coaching?
- Does anyone have a better resume of pupils?
- Our system is not just theory...it works!
- Our Defenseman Program is run by Norm McCauley and Patrick Higgins. Nobody breaks down the position better than Norm and Patrick.
- Mitch will personally answer any question you have via phone or email.
- We just don't hammer pucks at the goalies.
WE TEACH!
- Each goalie will definitely be a much smarter goalie when they finish with our camps.

Let’s not discuss hockey today, but the positive influence some individuals can have on young people. As a parent, I want to thank you for being such a positive role model for my sons Mike and Chris. You have taught them not only to be better goalies and to enjoy a great sport, but I am convinced that you have helped me make them better people. My goal as a parent is to make my children successful, not in terms of money, but in terms of being responsible and caring for others. Mike and Chris will interact with many people as they mature. Some will try to take them down the right path, others will not. I can only hope they meet more people like yourself that help to reinforce my messages. I believe that one day we will all be judged on not only what we did in our lives, but what those we have influenced have done. I think you will be in good company my friend, not as someone who helped a young goalie get a shutout, but as someone who influenced a young goalie to give up a Saturday to help stock a food pantry or to stop and help a stranded motorist. Thanks for all you do and please don’t stop!

Just dropping a quick note to thank you once again for your time, patience and effort in helping the "Goalies of Tomorrow" with their skill progression. I finally got a chance to see first-hand during your camp why my son, Samuel Randall, was so pumped to go back for his second year. I am amazed how you can get so much across, and so much out of a 12 year old without "watering it down". I am a former goalie and now coach myself and I was totally blown away at how organized and well run your drills, concepts and training sessions are. Pekka should be buying you a steak dinner for life! Thanks for giving back to the kids, not many people at your level would consider taking their entire summer on the road, to provide this expert training to non-professionals. We really appreciate it.

Your camps are great. They gave our son the added boast in skills, confidence, understanding that really helped him in goal and off ice. You may not remember Mike, he came to Newburgh the last two summers. He was new to ice hockey in the fall of grade 9. He worked hard and made the high school team. By grade 11, now he is their lead goalie. Thanks.
