*Kenny and Quinn

Mitch is in his 2nd season with the NY Islanders after 4 years with the Washington Capitals, 16 seasons with the Nashville Predators and 7 seasons with the Buffalo Sabres. Mitch is celebrating his 29th year in the NHL…and was a Stanley Cup Champion in 2018.

His hard work, superb communication skills, ability to “dissect" a goalie’s game, and great sense of humor have gained him the respect and friendship of those he has coached and worked with at all levels. In 2010, “The Hockey News” chose Mitch as “one of the top 10 Genius’ in hockey”.

With Robin Lehner’s nomination in 2019 and Braden Holtby’s  earning of the 2016 Vezina Trophy, it marked the 9th Korn coached goalie nomination and 5th awarded Vezina for Korn.  Dominik Hasek also won 2 MVP Hart trophies under Korn. He is the only coach in NHL history to coach a goaltender to a Vezina Trophy with two different teams (Buffalo, Washington) and to have earned 3 Jennings Trophies (fewest goals against) with 3 different teams (Buffalo, Washington, NY Islanders).

Fondly referred to as “Children of the Korn” (a phrase coined by Islanders head coach Barry Trotz) these current and former goalies (many of whom are now coaching) have benefited from and helped spread the “goalie gospel according to Mitch”.

Mitch has coached many present and former pro goalies including Semyon Varlomov, Thomas Greiss, Chris Gibson, Jared Coreau, Braden Holtby, Philipp Grubauer, Robin Lehner, Pekka Rinne, Carter Hutton, Devin Dubnyk, Scott Darling, Pheonix Copley, Vitek Vanecek, Parker Milner, Mike McKenna, Chris Mason, Dan Ellis, Marty Biron, Dominik Hasek, and Tomas Vokoun, (to name a few).

Mitch has coached and influenced many others who have (in the past) or who are currently coaching professionally. Some include: Ben Vanderklok (Nashville), Scott Murray (Caps), Steve Briere (Toronto), Wade Flaherty (Winnipeg), Mike Bales (Buffalo), Grant Fuhr (formerly Phoenix), Corey Hirsch (formerly St. Louis), Mike Valley (formerly Dallas), Clint Malarchuk (formerly Calgary), Olaf Kolzig (development for Caps), Mike Dunham (AHL for Boston), Karl Goehring (NCAA), Alex Westlund (AHL for Caps) Seamus Kotyk (AHL for Buffalo), and Steve Shields (formerly AHL now Univ. of Michigan).

In addition, Mitch has trained countless others who now are in the "goalie business" coaching, scouting and training a "new generation" of goaltenders at various levels. Some include Nick Petraglia, Chris Economou, Justin Goldman, Nick Johnsen, Phil Bowles, Svein Hagaseth, Jon DeCastro, Bill Pye, Jerome Bergquist, Robb Stauber, Justin Camuto, Cody Osborne, Cam Doomany, Dillon Caffrey, Andrew Furbush, Laura Pecchia, Eric Sorenson, Bill Horn, Shane Connelly, Jim Stanaway, Nick Blanchette, Chris Carter, Kevin Kreutzer, Rich Shulmistra, Dan Kodatsky, etc. Mitch is truly a teacher and a mentor.

Mitch has over 40 years of organizing and running summer hockey programs and will personally do all the coaching for each Goalie Camp. He is absolutely “hands on”.

Hey Mitch! … I've been a slacker not sending the pic with Evan.  I've been able to see the difference you've made in my goalie’s life.  I could go on and on about how amazing your camp is and the skills my guy learned but I'm sure you hear that often.  But, I want to share what you did for his mentality. Evan Jensen had a rough first season as a goalie. He comes from a small rural hockey program that pulls from 3 schools to make a team. He was asked to play up and was over the moon as it was his chance to be the goalie. As long as the kid has been on the ice (4+ years) he has always made his way in the net, it was like it was part of who he was.  Evan took 671 shots in goal this last season. The team won only 2 games. He was very defeated by the last month of the season. He asked to skate out his last couple of games saying "I just want hockey to be fun again".

As his parents, we thought he had lost his passion. He had no interest, and the twinkle in his eye when he was putting on his pads was gone. The week before your camp, we had to have a heart to heart with him. He needed to decide if he wanted to do this because we did not want to take this experience away from someone who would appreciate it more. Evan said he was still a goalie and wanted to give it a go. That first day, I was convinced we were out of our league and that someone was going to come to us to say so. That didn't happen. What happened was an amazing bunch of coaches taking time and patience to teach my child. He thrived!  I was beyond proud to see his determination to finish out every drill despite being the last to finish. He was upset when camp was over. What you gave him was his passion back!  He has worked on his skills nearly daily and we often hear "Coach Korn said".  He is excited for the season to start. To see this kid go from showing such passion for something he loves, to thinking it might be the end, and then coming back to that passion has been well worth every penny spent by this goalie mom.  So, THANK YOU!  Also, a huge THANK YOU to your coaching staff that didn't treat him differently because he was the littlest and least experienced!  He thrived in your environment. Hopefully, we will see you again next year!

Thank you for allowing me to participate in one of the best weeks of my life at the Buffalo Camp.  I already miss it. I learned so much about being a goalie, and it has already improved my on-ice performance. From tracking down to beating passes on my feet to having a correct stance, you and your staff explained so many new concepts in a way that made it easy to understand and accomplish. Both the off and on ice sessions gave me many valuable facets to my game.  I had an ice time earlier today with a team needing a goalie and I felt a huge difference. I've practiced with the team before, and it was a night and day difference from before to after camp.  I was able to slow down the game to make saves easier. My mindset also felt more confident and ready.  Everyone noticed a difference.  Hopefully I get a spot at camp next year. Either way, I know that I will never forget camp last week!  Thank you.

I want to thank you for an AMAZING week.  Kenny can’t stop talking about you, his experience, his new friends and the counselors.  He (and we) learned so much.  I truly believe that this is a lifelong memory for ALL of us.   P.S…I still can’t get over seeing you skate around that rink with your leg up at age 62!!
