Welcome to Korn Camp - 2024. Plans are for “open registration” to be held on Thursday., Jan. 18, 2024 at 9am (eastern). Camps fill almost instantly. Demand will far exceed supply. Mitch is in his 6th season with the NY Islanders after 4 years with the Washington Capitals, 16 seasons with the Nashville Predators and 7 seasons with the Buffalo Sabres. Mitch has 33 years in the NHL…and was a Stanley Cup Champion in 2018. He now is the Islander’s “Director of Goaltending.”

His hard work, superb communication skills, ability to “dissect" a goalie’s game, and great sense of humor have gained him the respect and friendship of those he has coached and worked with at all levels. In 2010, “The Hockey News” chose Mitch as “one of the top 10 Genius’ in hockey”.

With Illya Sorokin’s nomination in 2023 and Braden Holtby’s earning of the 2016 Vezina Trophy, it marked the 10th goalie nomination and 5th awarded Vezina for Korn as coach or director. Dominik Hasek also won 2 MVP Hart trophies under Korn. He is the only coach in NHL history to coach a goaltender to a Vezina Trophy with two different teams (Buffalo, Washington) and to have earned 3 Jennings Trophies (fewest goals against) with 3 different teams (Buffalo, Washington, NY Islanders).

Fondly referred to as “Children of the Korn” (a phrase coined by current Nashville GM Barry Trotz) these current and former goalies (many of whom are now coaching) have benefited from and helped spread the “goalie gospel according to Mitch”.

Mitch has coached many present and former pro goalies including

(to name some).

Mitch has coached and influenced many others who have (in the past) or who are currently coaching professionally. Some include: Ben Vanderklok (Nashville), Scott Murray (Wash.), Steve Briere (Seattle), Alex Westlund (Detroit), Wade Flaherty (Winnipeg), Mike Bales (Buffalo), Olaf Kolzig (development for Wash.), Mike Dunham (AHL for Boston), Justin Peters (AHL for Ottawa), Drew McIntyre (AHL for Winnipeg), Seamus Kotyk (AHL for Buffalo), Karel Popper (USHL), Karl Goehring (North Dakota), Cam Doomany (St. Lawrence), Eric Sorenson (Lowell), Grant Fuhr (formerly Phoenix), Corey Hirsch (formerly St. Louis), Mike Valley (formerly Dallas), Clint Malarchuk (formerly Calgary), and Jan Lasak (Slovakia).

In addition, Mitch has trained countless others who now are in the "hockey business" coaching goalies and others, scouting and training a "new generation" of goaltenders/players at various levels. Some include Nick Petraglia, Chris Economou, Justin Camuto, Justin Goldman, Nick Johnsen, Phil Bowles, Bob Janosz, Jon DeCastro, Bill Pye, Jerome Bergquist, Robb Stauber, Cody Osborne, Dillon Caffrey, Andrew Furbush, Laura Pecchia, Bill Horn, Jim Stanaway, Nick Blanchette, Chris Carter, Kevin Kreutzer, Rich Shulmistra, Dan Kodatsky, Tom Sullivan, Alvin Dow, etc. Mitch is truly a teacher and a mentor.

Mitch has over 40 years of organizing and running summer hockey programs and is personally deeply involved in each Camp. He is absolutely “hands on”.

We still can’t put into words how impactful your camp was this past week. Finn was speechless the first day, which was concerning and then we just realized he was too exhausted to speak. Every day after that he couldn’t stop talking about how much he learned and how much fun he had. You will always hold a special place in our family’s hearts as you give so much of your time to help all these goalies who want to be better and help them be better. We are already taking about next year and marking our calendars. Thank you again for all you do, it means the world to those who have the opportunity to work with you.

Thank you so much for another great year of Defense Camp! It is my son Evan’s favorite camp. It was his second year of attending. He learns so much during the 4 days of camp.
